Terakoyas, or temple elementary schools, originated during Japan's Edo Period when it wasn't uncommon for people to receive a basic education from Buddhist or Shinto priests. Today, Zenshuji honors this tradition through an entertaining and educational Parent and Me program in Japanese for children zero to three and three to six years of age. Terakoya meets Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m for zero to three year old children and Saturdays at 9:20 a.m for three to six year old children.
