OHIGAN BAKE SALE

The Annual Ohigan Bake Sale will be held in conjunction with the Ohigan/Monthly Memorial Service on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Please come and purchase an assortment of baked goods by our famous bakers: Georgene Salisbury, Ellen Nagamine, Janice Quan, Lauren Quan, Hisako Nagamine, James Monarrez, Betsy Takagi, and Lillian Takagi.

INTRODUCTION TO ZEN MEDITATION

5 Thursday evenings

February 21st through March 21st, From 7:30 to 8:45 p.m

This class series provides an introduction to Zen meditation for

beginners. It is open to people of all faiths. The classes include a

presentation of the basic principles of Zen and zazen meditation,

and discussions of how to practice Zen in daily life – while at work

and at leisure. Each class includes zazen meditation, beginning with 10 minutes during the first class, and working up to 30 minutes at the end of the series. Each class also includes walking meditation. Cost: $70 for the series ($35 for temple members). Register by calling Zenshuji (213) 617-0100 or by email to webmaster@zenshuji.org. Include your name and contact information. Payment may be made at the first class. Scholarships are also available. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

A DAY OF ZAZEN: One Day of Sitting Meditation

The Zazenkai holds One Day sitting, “A Day of Zazen” almost every month. It will be from 7:10am to 4:40 pm, include 8 periods of zazen, a Dharma talk by Daigaku Sokan, breakfast, lunch and a question period. REQUEST FOR OBON WHITE ELEPHANT ITEMS

It's that time of year again for the annual Zenshuji Obon on July 20 - 21 ... and also time to clean out your closets and bring all your extra items to the temple to be sold in the White Elephant booth. Please donate to this worthy cause - your Temple!

Please NO used clothing however! Please bring your items to the temple to the attention of Mrs. Kay SooHoo or Rev. Kojima, Zenshuji (213)624-8658.

ENGLISH OR JAPANESE SERVICE OFFERED

Zenshuji offers various services such as Buddhist Special/Monthly/Memorial services; weddings; baby's 100th day blessing service; special milestone birthday year service; new house blessing; funerals; etc. All of the services listed above and many others can be customized to be held in English or Japanese. Many of our families might be limited in the Japanese Language. The service can be Bi-lingual (English and/or Japanese), simple and short or traditional. The choice is that of the family members. Ministers are able to work with the families to make the service appropriate and comfortable for all those attending. Please feel free to discuss any concerns you may have about future services by contacting Bishop Rumme (Bilingual), Reverend Kojima (Bi-lingual) or Reverend Toho (Japanese) at Zenshuji - (213) 624-8658.

HANAMATSURI & PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Zenshuji Hanamatsuri will be held on Sunday, April 7th at 11:00am. And yes! we will serve Pancake Breakfast again starting 8:30am before the Zenshuji service. In the afternoon on the same day, there will be Hanamatsuri service by the Los Angeles Buddhist Church Federation (LABCF) at 1:00pm at the Jodoshu temple. This year's lecture is "Buddhism and Women" by Dr. Lori R. Meeks, Associate Professor at USC. For more information you may contact Rev. Kojima/Rev. Toho at (213) 624-8658.

GENERAL MEETING & NEW BOARD

Thank you to all who attended the Zenshuji General Meeting on January 27, 2013. The meeting reviewed last year's (2012) agenda and budget by the various organizations and future items for the 2013 calendar. This was an opportunity for the members to express approval, ask questions and create discussions as needed.Elections were held for 8 new Board of Director members who will service a 2 year term with remaining 7 members.
