HALLOWEEN PARTY
Zenshuji’s Board Members and Zazenkai will host their Annual Halloween Party for the young children of the Temple. There will be table top activities, face painting, ghost stories and snack bags for all the kids who attend. We encourage all the little ones and big ones to come in their costumes on Sunday, October 25 @ 2:00pm. See you then.
EITAIKYO
The Japanese Buddhist Temples have a ‘Eitaikyo Book’ which is a calendar book with names of deceased persons entered on the day of their death. The service is dedicated in memory of the deceased and special sutras are chanted. It is also translated as the ‘Perpetual Memorial Service” which means valid for a long time or occurring continually or indefinitely. At the request of the family, the urn may be kept at the Temple; the Kaimyo (Buddhist Title) is kept on file at the Temple; Memorial Services may be held for the deceased even if the family decides to move away.
Zenshuji’s Eitaikyo Service will be held on Sunday, October 18th @ 11:00am. We hope to see many families attend to pay respect to their deceased family members.
SHICHI-GO-SAN (7-5-3) SERVICE
Zenshuji Temple’s celebration for children Shichi-Go-San (7-5-3 years old) will be held on Sunday, November 15 @ 11:00am. Usually girls of seven years, boys of 5 years and boys and girls of 3 years go to the local shrine to express gratitude to the Gods for their growth and continued blessings. The children dress in colorful traditional costumes as they enter the shrine. If Western attire is worn, the children dress up in party dresses and suits. The children are given candy called “chitoseame” (thousand year candy) to promise them long life. We need to order these candies from Japan. Pictures are taken by the proud parents for these mile stones. We will have Alan Miyatake of Toyo Miyatake Studio, San Gabriel taking pictures for this memorable event. Come early to take your pictures before the service. Alan will be downstairs. All children must register with the ministers at Zenshuji. Please call (213) 624-8658 and make your reservation.
